Steve Kerr sat at Phil Jackson’s table Thursday night. chicago bulls‘Ring of Honor Gala and Dinner.

As the night wore on and members of the 1995-96 championship team gathered to share their laughs and memories, Kerr reflected on everything the Zen Master had shared with him over the years.

“Every time I’m with Phil, every time I talk to him, I draw wisdom from him. He’s great,” Kerr said before his game Friday night. golden state warriors Facing the Bulls. “(Thursday) night, we were randomly telling stories and he said, ‘Yeah, we lost to Milwaukee “The next night.” This was 26-28 years ago. He has a photographic memory and is full of wisdom. So just talking to him, I always jot down things and remember things that really help me as a coach. Career for sure. “

Kerr has a unique perspective, having played for the Bulls dynasty and coached the Warriors dynasty. While the latter appears to be ending in a sub-.500 season for the Warriors, that doesn’t stop Kerr from enjoying his trip to Chicago.

“The similarity is the incredible confidence we feel going into every game. Obviously, if you’re not performing well, you’re not going to win as many games. But the momentum you capture is indescribable,” Cole said. “You feel like you’re going to win every night and you’re flying all season long. It doesn’t seem like you’re going to have the usual dog days or the inevitable bad games. I think every team probably has one or two bad losses, and that’s It’s almost unimaginable.”

Before the game, Kerr joked about his ability to attend the halftime ceremony honoring players in the inaugural Ring of Honor class, which included the 1995-96 team that won 72 games.

“As far as I know, it’s 25 minutes,” Kerr said of the break. “I don’t know what to say to my team in those 25 minutes.”

Thursday night and halftime Friday gave Cole a chance to catch up with Jackson and his teammates again.

“What Phil does year in and year out is set expectations and standards and then drive an inclusive culture of beauty inspiration,” Kerr said. “There’s a sense that you can’t wait to get to the gym every day because you know You’re part of something special. That’s Phil’s genius.”
