To connect YouTube Music to HomePods, you need a YouTube Music or YouTube Premium account. Open the app, click the user icon in the upper right corner, then go to Settings > Connected Apps > Connect with HomePod. Then, to set it as the default, open the Family app on your iPhone or iPad, click the Settings icon in the upper right corner, then go to Family Settings > Your Username (under People Section) > “Default Service”.

If you don’t see the “Connected Apps” option in YouTube Music, don’t worry – I didn’t see it either initially. However, after force closing the app and reopening it, it’s there. You may also want to make sure you have the latest version of the app.
