WWE announced that 48,044 people attended Saturday’s Royal Rumble, setting a record for Tropicana Field.

Even when the team won division titles in 2008 and 2010 (they won in 2020 and 2021 but with attendance restrictions due to the pandemic), they averaged 22,259 and 23,025 attendances, respectively.

Trop opened in 1990 and was originally the home of the Arena Football League team. The NHL Lightning played here from 1993 to 1996, and the Rays were born in 1999.
Located in St. Petersburg, it’s difficult to get around—it’s also widely considered one of the worst ballparks in North America.
The stadium’s highest average attendance was in its first season, when the Rays averaged 30,942 fans per home game in 1998. But since 2010, the Rays have never averaged more than 20,000 fans at the stadium.
