Video of the confrontation shows a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl being punched in the face outside a Las Vegas courtroom.
Yousuf Azami, 59, appeared in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing on charges of kidnapping, molestation and sexual assault of a teenage girl. KLAS reports.
Video obtained by the outlet shows Azami exiting the courtroom at some point before the hearing and starting walking down the hallway of the Las Vegas courthouse.
The video shows Glenn Cromwell Jr., believed to be related to the victim in the case, then stand up from the bench where he was sitting, follow Azami across the hall and confront him.
The two appear to briefly exchange words before Cromwell punches Azami in the face – hard enough to hit him in the back, the video shows.
Cromwell continued to punch and kick Azami, and several people, including a police officer, rushed towards them and broke up the fight.
Cromwell was taken into custody and charged with assault, according to KLAS.
In Azami’s case, he was charged after a teen fled to the Mirage Hotel on Sept. 3 and reported that he raped her. The girl’s age was not revealed in court documents, but she was 14 or 15 at the time of the attack.
The teen told police she was walking around “looking to buy some cigarettes and something to eat” when she encountered Azami in the parking lot of a marijuana dispensary. She got into his car and they drove to his apartment.
The girl began to doze off as Azami lay behind her.
“She stated she felt his pelvis ‘grinding’ against her and that he was not wearing any clothing,” court documents state.
The girl asked Azami to stop, took a shower and fled the apartment wearing the suspect’s clothes.
Near the Mirage Hotel, she spotted a man picking up his wife and told him “she had been kidnapped and raped and the police were needed,” documents state.
Azami, an Afghan actor and actor, denied any sexual contact with the girl, police said. He also said he did not know the girl’s age.
He was arrested and released on $5,000 bail, KLAS reported. He will appear in court again on February 20.
Cromwell was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on March 19.
The riot took place in the same building when a man jumped over a bench. against a judge after she refused probation.
