If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we’re flattered. saturday night live make fun of NPR’s Little Desk This weekend, a sketch follows an office concert that goes awry when it’s interrupted by a work-obsessed NPR intern.

The sketch opens on the Tiny Desk, with this weekend’s host Ramy Youssef playing the lead singer of a band who is performing to the NPR staff.

“Thank you so much to NPR. We’re the Jonah Hughes Band. I’m Jonah Hughes,” Youssef said. “The last one usually has more synths, but since this was a Tiny Desk concert, we had to weird it up.”

His bandmate chimed in: “Yeah, that’s why I play the milk carton shaker.”

“She usually plays the cello,” Yousef said.

As the band begins their next song, “Crazy Girl (Amanda),” about an ex-girlfriend, a 35-year-old NPR intern played by Bowen Yang walks in and asks the band to “stop making noise.”

Another employee explained that Yang was working on a podcast about “artificial intelligence and rural queers,” and Yang waltzed back in to announce that he had found the title for the podcast.

“The song is called ‘Beep Boop I’m Gay Now.’ It’s a play Wait wait don’t tell mebut it’s not funny at all,” Yang said.

Youssef tried to continue the show, but Young interrupted again: “I’m doing an important Zoom with Ella and Terry — Glass and Gross.”

In the face of backlash from the angry crowd, Young’s character tries to let go of a hard truth: “I’m brave enough to say that that table was not small. It never was. It just felt small because there was so much junk on it,” He said.

As the argument heated up, Young took to the microphone and improvised his podcast. Yusuf agreed to participate and even composed a theme song for the show.

“If you’re gay or a robot in a country town, doo doo doo,” the band sings.
