Ashleigh Rodriguez Paez, of Pensacola, Florida, told Fox News Digital that she gave birth to daughter Lyla Hadassah on February 1.
At the time, her husband was attending Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois.
Her husband, Roger Rodriguez-Pez, is from Venezuela and officially became a U.S. citizen the day their little Leila was born.
He also graduated from boot camp last Thursday.

Ashley Rodriguez-Pez explained that she and her husband were hoping for a baby girl.
The couple decided to do things the old-fashioned way – waiting until the big day to find out the sex of their baby.
“We didn’t know if it was going to be a boy or a girl, but we both really wanted a girl,” she said.
The first-time mother had a difficult delivery but ended up giving birth to a healthy baby girl. Ashleigh Rodriguez Paez, a labor and delivery nurse, decided to make the long trip to visit her husband after consulting with medical professionals.
She said she was looked after by the baby’s pediatrician and another doctor, both of whom approved the trip.
“They both said, ‘Yeah, it’s okay. Just cover her up. Don’t let people come over and touch her,'” she said.
The couple met at the Chicago airport on Roger Rodriguez-Spez’s graduation day.

“He was walking through the airport when he saw us, and he gave me a hug,” Ashley Rodriguez-Spez said. “Then I gave him Leila… and there was magic in his eyes.”
“I thought it was so tacky, but he was just so shocked,” she said.
The new mother was told that she would love her husband more when she saw him as a parent. She told Fox News Digital that she can confirm that, for her, the idea is indeed the right one.
“It was like watching him with her for the first time for me… because in a way I felt like a single parent,” she said.
“So when I finally got them together, I felt so relieved that he finally got to meet her and then we could moments together As a family. “
She stressed that her husband’s absence during the birth was as difficult for him as it was for her.
“It was a huge sacrifice for him to let him go,” she said.
“He’s not alone. You know, when he graduates, there are other people in his department who are going through the same thing… It’s amazing what these Navy sailors and other service members do for their families.”
Roger Rodriguez Paez will now attend technical school in Great Lakes. Ashleigh Rodriguez Paez told Fox Digital News the couple planned to move from there to San Diego with their young daughter.
