Officials say six people still missing after bridge collapse

Six people are still missing after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed.

Eight people were reported in the water, officials said. All eight were construction workers assisting on a project. One person was transported to an area hospital.

The press conference after the collapse of the foundation bridge is in progress.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore spoke early in the session.

Moore said emergency teams were still working to rescue people who may have fallen into the water behind the bridge.

He added that preliminary investigations indicated the bridge collision was an accident.

“We come together in the face of heartbreak. We embrace each other and emerge stronger. That’s what we’ve been doing…and that’s what we will accomplish together. We will pray for it baltimore,” Moore said.

Brandon M. Scott, Mayor baltimoredeclared a local state of emergency after the foundation bridge collapsed, according to a statement on social media.

In a post to X, Scott said he was “officially declaring a local emergency in response to the collapse of our Key Bridge.”

“Our teams are mobilizing resources and working quickly to address this crisis and ensure the safety and well-being of our communities,” Scott added.

FBI baltimore Says foundation bridge collapse was not caused by terrorismaccording to a statement on social media.

The FBI’s Baltimore Division said in a post to X that “there is currently no specific and credible information indicating any connection to terrorism.”

The office added that the investigation is ongoing.

Homeland Security secretary says collision does not appear to be intentional

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says base bridge collision does not appear to be intentionalin a social media post.

“There is no indication this was intentional and we are assessing the impact on the port,” Mayorkas said in an update to X baltimore”.

Mayorkas added that the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies were assisting with search and rescue efforts in Baltimore.

good morning. It’s 8.27am now baltimoreIn Maryland, the Francis Scott Key Bridge was struck by a container ship early Tuesday morning, causing part of the bridge to collapse.

Here’s the latest situation so far:

  • At least seven people in Patapsco River need rescueReporters at the scene quoted the Baltimore Fire Department as saying. Two people have been rescued so far Emergency crews are working to find others who may have fallen into the river.

  • The ship that hit the bridge was chartered by MaerskAccording to Reuters, Maersk said the vessel was operated by Synergy Group and was carrying cargo for Maersk customers.

  • Maryland Governor Wes Moore said in a statement that he had declared a state of emergency. “We are working with an interagency team to rapidly deploy federal resources from the Biden administration,” he said.

  • Bridge collapsed, many cars fell into wateraccording to the video. Maryland Transportation authorities have closed all lanes in both directions of I-695 at the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

An unclassified report from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said the container ship Dali “lost propulsion” as it left port and warned Maryland officials of a possible collision, ABC reported report.

“The vessel notified the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) that they had lost control of the vessel and the coalition [a ship collision] This bridge is possible,” the report said.
