Yahoo Sports Special Report
Some star players, including some highly ranked goaltenders, haven’t lived up to their draft stock. As a result, some very talented candidates have emerged that fantasy managers are trying to acquire. Maybe it’s time to cut your losses on someone else if the deal doesn’t go through.
Connor McDavid After dishing out just one assist in five games to start November, he’s almost on the buy-low candidate list this week. However, he responded with a brilliant performance in the third period of Monday’s 4-1 victory. new york islanders Has two power play points. If there was ever a window to try to acquire McDavid from a frustrated fantasy opponent, it may have just closed. Still, it would be very difficult to pry him away in a trade anyway. The firing of head coach Jay Woodcroft may have finally awakened McDavid.
Next up is a breakdown of this week.

Stewart Skinner, G. Oiler (63% are on the list)
Edmonton’s goaltending situation is a disaster in 2023-24. Entering Tuesday night’s game, the Oilers ranked 30th in goals allowed per game (3.71) despite ranking ninth in shots allowed per game (29.1). Jack Campbell After he started the season with a 1-4-0 record, a 4.50 goals-against average and an .873 save percentage in five starts, he was waived and demoted to AHL Bakersfield.
Skinner wasn’t performing much better before Campbell was demoted, but he may be called off waivers because he’s younger, has a cheaper contract, and has more upside. After a inconsistent performance in a three-game stretch against San Jose on Nov. 9 in a 2-2 loss, Skinner is trending in the right direction. He stopped 49 of 51 shots in wins over Seattle and the New York Islanders. Skinner went 29-14-5 last season with a 2.75 GAA and .913 SV% in 50 games. If he gets back to that form, fantasy managers will be happy they’re jumping on him now.

Mika ZibanejadC, Rangers (98% selected)
Zibanejad scored 39 goals and a career-high 91 points in 82 games last season. He also accumulated 29 goals and 52 assists in 81 games in the 2021-22 season. However, he has only scored 2 goals and 8 assists in 14 games this year.
Zibanejad is averaging points per game very quickly, but unfortunately, he has only had 1 assist and 9 shots on target in the past five games, and his shooting percentage has also hit a career-low 5.1%. There will definitely be improvement. Zibanejad shot 14.4% from the field in the first seven seasons and should be able to get back on track soon.

Ilya SorokinG, Islanders (99% listed)
Sorokin has been outstanding since joining the NHL in the 2020-21 season. He entered the season with a 70-46-18 record, a 2.34 GAA, a .924 SV% and 16 shutouts in 136 games. However, Sorokin has performed well in most games so far this season. In his current winless skid of four games (0-2-2), Sorokin has allowed 15 goals on 147 shots.
Sorokin suffered some losses late in the game, with New York trailing 20-9 in the third quarter. The Islanders have dealt with a lot of injury issues on defense earlier in the year, but Sorokin hasn’t failed to cover up many of the team’s issues like he has in the past. The good news is he has the ability to bounce back. It could also be a wake-up call for the Islanders that could lead to meaningful changes from a management, coaching or player personnel perspective. If you need a goaltender and the price is right, Sorokin is worth buying.

Philip Gustafsson,G,Wild (79% listed)
Gustafsson put up stellar numbers as he wrested the No. 1 goalie spot from the veteran in 2022-23. Marc-Andre FleuryGustafsson, 25, has a 22-9-7 record with three shutouts in 39 games, with a 2.10 GAA and a .931 save percentage.
So far in the 2023-24 season, it’s been a different story for Gustafsson and the Wild as a whole.
He won two of his first eight starts and posted a save percentage above .900 in just two games, a 5-4 overtime loss to Columbus and the other in Minnesota’s season opener. Fleury, who shut out Florida with 41 saves, has had some issues, too, just as the Wild have been terrible in shootouts this season. If one of them can get hot, both netminders could string together some starts. A trip home This week, Gustafsson needs to play in the NHL Global Series in Sweden to get back on track.

Jonas JohnsonG, Lightning (69% listed)
Johnson is off to a strong start in the 2023-24 season, going 4-1-2 with two shutouts and a .925 save percentage. He completed 221 of 239 shots during this period. Unfortunately, he’s already starting to fade, giving up 23 goals heading into Tuesday’s game against St. Louis after allowing 166 shots in five games (.861 save percentage). During this span, Johnson only managed one victory (1-2-2). The workload and intensity was only a matter of time before the shooting volume started to work against him.
Some fantasy managers have moved on from him, and it’s time for you to do the same. His cold personality is one thing; Andrei Vasilevsky Vasilevskiy is also set to return to the lineup after offseason back surgery. Vasilevskiy practiced with his teammates on Monday and could return to the lineup sometime between Nov. 23 and Dec. 1. Trades involving Johnson for Gustafsson or Skinner are already in the works. mentioned above.

Johnny Gaudreau,LW, blue jackets (67% are on the list)
Gaudreau has only scored 1 goal and 5 assists in 15 games this season. His abysmal 2.7 field goal percentage should improve, but it may not be enough to win over many fantasy head coaches. He has been substituted once and relegated to the third line recently.
Heading into Tuesday’s game against Pittsburgh, Gaudreau had one goal, one assist and 10 shots on goal in eight games. If you’re desperate for change, the 30-year-old winger is likely to be dropped. However, you may be able to convince someone to take him away from you.
Example of an offer from Yahoo Marketplace: Gaudreau for Claude Giroux
Alexis LafreniereLW/RW, Rangers (35% rostered)
Lafreniere’s offense was hot, scoring three goals and adding three assists in a four-game scoring spree during which he also had 10 shots on net.
Lafreniere is a difficult player to trust given his past struggles and often inconsistent play. His 29.2 field goal percentage is bound to drop as well. Prior to the 2023-24 season, Lafreniere had a shooting efficiency of 15.1% in 216 NHL games. He’s been a popular player off the waiver wire recently, but a savvy fantasy manager might be able to upgrade him while his value is at its highest level.
Yahoo Marketplace deal examples: Lafreniere and Esa Lindell acquire Brayden Schenn and K’Andre Miller
Shane GostisbehearD, Red Wings (59% on roster)
Gostisbecher made a good start to the 2023-24 season, scoring 3 goals and 6 assists in 7 games, but his offense has been ice cold since then, and he has not scored in the past 7 games. ball.
The 30-year-old blueliner was on the other side of the trade committee earlier this season, but that inconsistency should have fantasy managers looking to ship him to another team. You may be able to include exemptions as an alternative while addressing the needs elsewhere in the deal.
