Yahoo Sports Special Report
The NHL is off from the All-Star break on Thursday through Monday, so in place of our usual weekly Puck Drops article, we’ll instead focus on the best fantasy players for the first part of the season.
Since this is a fantasy all-star team, there won’t be any players who should be drafted in the first round because they already come in with star-level expectations.you won’t see Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, David Pastrnak, Auston Matthews, Nikita Kucherov or Karl Makar on this list.
Instead, you’ll see players promoted to very high levels from other parts of fantasy drafts.
(All numbers are from Monday’s game)
There are a lot of Vancouver players on this list, and rightfully so. This team is led by Miller, who has been outstanding since the beginning of the season. Miller has played in 21 multi-point games this season, eight of which came with at least three points. Miller is tied for fourth with 67 points, including 25 on the power play. Miller is drafted in the fourth or fifth round in most fantasy leagues, making the 30-year-old one of the best options in the draft.
William Nylander, RW, Toronto Maple Leafs
Nylander was drafted around the same time as Miller in most drafts. Nylander started the season on a 17-game scoring streak, and while he’s dipped a bit recently — scoring twice and assisting two in his past nine games — he still ranks 11th on the scoring list. Nylander led the league in scoring with 61 points. Nylander ranks fifth in the league with 197 shots on goal and has been a steal in fantasy leagues this season.
Blatt has been a surprise this season, but he shouldn’t be, as he’s coming off two straight 73-point seasons heading into the 2023-24 season. He scored 19 goals and 50 points in 47 games (even without his superstar center) jack hughes, who has missed the past 10 games with an upper-body injury), leads the Devils in points. Blatt is likely to be drafted in the middle of the league, usually between the eighth and 10th rounds, making him another great fantasy pick.
Quinn HughesD, Vancouver Canucks
Hughes is considered a leading candidate for the Norris Trophy at this stage of the season. The 24-year-old guard leads all blueliners with 62 points in just 49 games, four more than Kyle Makar. Hughes leads the entire league in rating at +34. Hughes scored 76 points in 78 games last season, and he’s on pace to break that record this season as he’s on pace for 104 points. Eric Carlson Last season, Hughes became the first defensive player in 30 years to hit the 100-point mark, and just one year later, Hughes is already starting to improve on that mark.
Dobson has nine assists in the past five games, giving the Blue Jackets 52 points in 49 games. He was a mid-to-late draft pick, making him an excellent value in fantasy pools this season. Dobson has improved on his career high, which was set two seasons ago when he scored 51 points in 80 games. He’s only going to get better and will likely be a fourth or fifth round pick next season. Dobson scored 20 points on the power play, just two fewer than his 22 points last season in 2021-22 with the personnel advantage.
Hellebuyck ranks fifth in most fantasy leagues, but he has performed like a top-two goaltender this season. The 30-year-old has not conceded more than three goals since November 2. He was 9-3 at 23 years old, with a GAA of 2.20 and an equally impressive .924 save percentage. All top goalkeepers (Andrei Vasilevsky, Igor Shesterkin and Ilya SorokinHellebuyck’s outstanding performance, which has been struggling this season, easily made him the NHL’s best goaltender.
Reinhardt ranks second in the NHL in goals with 37 goals, one behind in third place. maple leaf” Auston Matthews. Reinhardt has already set a career high with 62 points in 49 games and is ninth in the Art Ross Cup competition. It’s been a surprisingly strong season for Reinhardt, who projects as a UFA prospect. After the season, Reinhardt has scored in 13 consecutive games and has scored in 37 of 49 games this season. He leads the NHL with 20 power-play goals.
Brock BosserRW, Vancouver Canucks
Boeser got off to a strong start with four goals and one assist on opening night and ended the first half Saturday with a hat trick and one assist for his first 30-goal career. The season helped. Boeser also scored with 22 goals. Assists, 52 points in 49 games. Boeser ranks third in the NHL with 12 goals. His +20 rating tied for 10th in the NHL, making Boeser a gem among fantasy players this season.
I have considered Zach Hyman Here, but Forsberg’s points ratio Oiler” Upper left winger. Forsberg is drafted in the later rounds of most drafts, possibly as early as the 12th round or as late as the 16th round. Forsberg’s 2022-23 season was riddled with injuries, missing 32 games, but has been healthy this season, scoring 50 points in 50 games. He was a plus-six point average on a mediocre Predators team, and his 197 shots on goal were tied for fifth in the NHL.
Alvin BouchardD, Edmonton Oilers
Bouchard got big break at last season’s trade deadline Tyson Barrie Traded to Nashville. That opened up a spot for the Oilers’ first power play, and Bouchard took full advantage. That momentum carried over into the season, with Bouchard ranking sixth among defensemen in scoring with 43 points. The budding star has five goals, 20 quarterback points and a +11 rating, giving him extra value. Bouchard has been in a bit of a slump lately, but he ended a meaningless four-game stretch with an assist in a 4-1 win over Nashville on Saturday.
Dunn was outstanding in the 2022-23 season, scoring 14 times and assisting 50 times. But the Kraken’s top defenseman has been overlooked in many drafts, falling between the 10th and 13th rounds in most drafts. Dunn rewarded everyone who drafted him as he scored eight goals and 37 points in just 45 games. He has also been outstanding this season, contributing 50 PIM.Dunn had four goals and 14 points on the power play, but those numbers may stall in the second half of the season as the Kraken recall Riker Evans Evans could take over at quarterback on the first power play, relegating Dunn to the second unit.
Thatcher DemkoG, Vancouver Canucks
While Hellebuyck has been the best goaltender in the league this season, Demko isn’t far behind. Demko is on many lists as the best goaltender among goaltenders, and he does not disappoint. The 28-year-old is likely to be drafted between the sixth round after going 14-14-4 last season at -9. His GAA was 3.16 and his save percentage was .901. This season has been completely different, with Miller going 26-8-1 with a 2.44 GAA and a .901 save percentage. .920 save percentage. He is tied for the NHL lead in buzzer beaters. Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram Demko is playing extremely well and if he continues his consistent performance, he will win the Vezina Trophy.
